Adam's Page
Hi, my name is Adam and I play the
bodhrán and bouzouki in the band. I have been playing the
bodhrán since I was 3, when I started off on a cardboard box and
a wooden spoon, but when I was about 6 mum and dad went to
Ireland and got me a real one from O'Neil's in Dublin. Since then
I have had about 4 different drums. At the moment I have two. The
main one that I use for competitions is my Seamus O'Kane,
goatskin (16" x 6"). The second one was made by dad and
me (16" x 12"), which used to have deerskin from
darkest Scotland but we recently replaced it with goatskin!!!
My favourite bands are Flook, Mise and Dansaul. I listen to Flook all the time especially on long journeys, but I play it too loud on my personal player and annoy the rest of the people in the car!!!!!
I really enjoy listening to John Joe Kelly from Flook. ( www.flook.co.uk ) He is one of the best bodhrán players in the world, maybe even the best. I was really lucky to meet him in Cambridge, play with him in a session and have ago on his drum!!!
In 2003 I entered the Irish music competitions. First you have to enter the regional level to go through to the All Britain, which has the top three musicians for all four regions in Britain. I won both the regional and the All Britain 12-15 bodhran competitions and this meant that I qualified for the All Ireland Fleadh, which was held in Clonnmel Co. Tipperary. At the All Ireland there are musicians from all over the world because in effect it is the world championships for Irish music. I was against 13 other brilliant bodhran players, and if you don't already know......................
.......................the rest is history!!!!!!!!!!!!!
