My name is Erin, I play the fiddle and
sing in the band. I started playing the Violin when I was about 7
or 8 and have been singing since I was able to talk!!!!! It's
only in the last couple of years that I've been brave enough to
sing in public. In sessions I sometimes prefer to play my
Mandolin especially when I'm not sure of the tune (so that is
most of the time!!!!)
At present I
specialize in slow traditional songs. I get some of my lyrics
from listening to CD's and tapes by Karen Casey, John Spiers
& Jon Boden (best duo in the world!!!! (www.spiersandboden.com ) and Mick Hipkiss from the Birmingham based group
Drowsy Maggie. Seamus Brogan, from
the St Albans
Comhaltas organisation was kind enough to send me a tape of him
and his mother which has lots of traditional songs. Many thanks
to him, but the main people I get songs from are my mum and dad.
Listening to Eliza
Cathy, Kate Rusby, Karen Casey, Spiers & Boden, Mise, Cara
Dillion, Jim Moray and Bill Jones plus going to folk festivals
and hearing new kinds of music is something I really enjoy. Going
to the 'odd' Folk Club and meeting up with friends like Tosh
Ewins is a great laugh!!! (www.toshmusic.co.uk )
Although pressure from school work has meant that I no longer attend Irish dancing classes, I still get a little bit of exercise by doing displays at our concerts. ( Luckily my shoes still fit!!)
As some of you know, Adam and I play in a band called No I.D. which has been going from strength to strength.(Check out our website (www.noidmusic.co.uk ) Playing at Cambridge Folk Festival 2003 and recording our first album have been the highlights of a very busy 12 month period. We have enjoyed playing a variety of different venues from 'Up North' in Hexham to 'down south' in St Albans and many in between.
